Milestone! Project "Truck Charging 1" successfully completed

From July 2025 to March 2026, we carried out the co-innovation project "Truck Charging" with our partners. The result: A digital, interoperable reservation system that creates planning security for heavy-duty fleets.
No more manual chaos
Previously, scaling often failed due to manual charging planning via Excel. In just eight months, the project consortium (including MAN, E.ON, Alpitronic, AVL) developed a functioning system (MVP) that connects fleet management and charging infrastructure via open interfaces (OCPI).
The benefits at a glance:
- Planning security: Binding time slots at depots and public charging parks
- Efficiency: No waiting times for logistics providers, higher utilization for operators
- Security: Controlled release of depot charging points for third parties
Successful real-world test
A 300 km field test in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg confirmed in February 2026: The digital chain from route planning to authentication at the charging station is in place.
Road to "Truck Charging 2": The next steps
Following the successful completion of "Truck Charging 1," we are focusing on two follow-up topics in 2026:
- System Orchestration: A technological blueprint for market standards in depot charging.
- Flexible Energy Hubs: Integration of volatile electricity prices and grid capacities into route planning for cost reduction.
