Final Review: GRIDS & BENEFITS
Accelerating the energy transition and charging flexibly, instead of curtailing renewables and dimming wallboxes.
Dynamic electricity tariffs already promise green and affordable energy for those who consume when the wind blows and the sun shines. At those times, electricity prices plummet in the market. But what happens if green electricity can't be transported to the consumer because there's no more capacity in the grid? Then, renewable plants need to be curtailed, fossil power plants ramped up, and wallboxes dimmed. Consumers suffer, and we all face costs in the billions.
That's why we teamed up with our partners TenneT, TransnetBW, EWE Netz, Maingau, Octopus Energy, The Mobility House, and RWTH Aachen to create incentives for electric vehicle users to act not only market- but also grid-friendly. This means consuming electricity when it's available from renewable sources and can be transported to the consumer. In our collaborative project, GRIDS & BENEFITS, we developed a unified grid signal across network levels to proactively address bottlenecks. Aggregators and e-mobility service providers can use this to incentivize load shifting. In this way, we create benefits for the end customer and enable the shift towards a renewable electricity system through flexible consumption behavior at home wallboxes and on the road.

To mark the end of the project, we invite all grid operators, energy providers, e-mobility service providers, charge point operators, OEMs, aggregators, and electric vehicle users to Munich Urban Colab to learn how the electricity market and grid utilization are connected, what the future holds for dynamic grid charges, where value creation potential lies for aggregators and EMSPs, and how end customers can benefit from using their flexibility in a grid- and market-friendly way. In addition to exciting presentations, you can look forward to demos of our prototypes and plenty of networking opportunities.
